This educational seminar provides professionals with a deeper understanding of communication changes resulting from Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.*
After attending this course, social workers and health care professionals with knowledge of dementia will be able to:
- Explain the meaning of communication and list various types of communication
- Describe and apply person-centered theories as frameworks for communicating with a person with dementia
- Apply communication techniques to case examples of individuals in early, middle, and late stages of dementia
- Develop and analyze communication strategies to connect with persons with dementia based on need and personhood
*Prior attendance at an Understanding Dementia Seminar for Professionals is Required before attending.
