What is the CaringKind New York City Walk?
The CaringKind New York City Walk is NYC’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s caregiving. There are two Walk events in 2023:
1) The NYC Walk in Central Park at the bandshell on October 22
2) The Virtual Walk – you can walk wherever and whenever you want!
Everyone affected by Alzheimer’s disease or dementia including caregivers, friends, family, caregivers, sponsors, volunteers and community leaders are encouraged to attend - in person or online - for a day full of remembrance, promise, and hope.
Does every walker get a T-shirt?
YOU MUST REGISTER TO RECEIVE A T-SHIRT. Registering for the Walk means that you are creating a fundraising page. Every registered participant who has at least $100 on their fundraising page will receive a T-shirt. The easiest way to get a t-shirt is to register (I.e., create a fundraising page) and donate $100 to your own page. It’s that easy!
How can my company participate in or sponsor a walk?
Our Walk reaches thousands of caregivers, professional home health aides, residential care facility staff, and other stakeholders. If your company wants to sponsor the CaringKind New York City Walk, please contact us at walk@cknyc.org for more information.
Registration
Do I have to register in order to walk?
Yes! Think of this as your RSVP to New York City’s greatest event! We want to know you’re walking with us. Part of registration includes a standard liability waiver that our insurance company requires.
Is there a registration fee?
The CaringKind New York City Walk has no registration fee but we encourage all of our Walkers to be the first to donate to their own page in order to kickstart their fundraising efforts.
How do I register?
To register online for a Walk, visit our Walk website and select “Register.” This 5-minute video will show you how!
How do I register children under the age of 18 online?
To register family members, begin your own registration and enter your details. At the end of the registration flow, you will see a "register another person" button. Click this button to add children for whom you have the legal authority to sign our liability waiver.
How do I register others online after I've completed my registration?
Each participant over the age of 18 must register themselves so they can accept the terms of the liability waiver and provide their unique email address so they can receive details about the event.
Walk Teams
How do I create a team?
If you're a new participant, click "Become a fundraiser." You will become the team captain for your team. Watch this 5-minute video to learn how to create a team.
Where do we walk?
The route in Central Park is to be determined, but no more than a 2-mile loop – one mile to the halfway point and one mile back. If you participate virtually, you can walk as much as you want.
I am a Team Captain. What are my next steps?
Team captains are our key leaders at the CaringKind New York City Walk! As a team captain, you’ll recruit team members, raise awareness for Alzheimer’s and CaringKind, help team members fundraise, keep them motivated and have fun supporting an important cause! We suggest you set up your individual and team page and then recruit others to join you. Once you’ve recruited teammates, you can keep them updated on any new Walk-related events or details about Walk day.
Fundraising
How do I start fundraising?
Now that you have registered for the walk, it’s time to spread the word and ask your supporters for their help in your fundraising efforts. The best way to start is to share your personal story about why you're participating in the CaringKind New York City Walk and what makes this cause important to you. The best way to optimize your fundraising page is to watch another video called “How To Optimize Your Fundraising Page.”
Share your story on your personal fundraising page.
Send a letter, card, or email to potential supporters. This is, by far, the most effective way to receive the most number of gifts, and the largest gifts. Post on social media, like Facebook, Instagram, and twitter. Don’t forget to share your personalized URL so that your donors click right through to your fundraising page.
What is my Walk Dashboard?
Your Walk Dashboard is an online portal for your CaringKind New York City Walk fundraising efforts. To update your story, log into Classy (the name of our fundraising platform) and click on your photo in the top right-hand corner of the screen. In your Walk profile, you’ll find all the tools you need to set up a fundraising web page and check your fundraising success.
How is the money collected?
Submitting donations to CaringKind is easy! Donations can be made online, by submitting a check by mail, and by hand-delivering cash, checks or money orders to our office (360 Lexington Avenue, Floor 3, New York, NY 10017) during normal business hours. Please respect social distancing guidelines. CaringKind’s office building requires guests to wear a mask in order to gain access.
How/where do I turn in cash and check donations?
If you collect cash or check donations toward your fundraising efforts, you can turn them in to our office via one of the options below:
Mail. It is important that the memo line on the check lists the event and the participant who should be receiving the fundraising credit (i.e. “Walk – Team Joe”). Please note: Never mail cash!
Mailing address:

360 Lexington Ave., 3rd Floor

Online. If you receive cash and/or checks written out to you personally instead of “CaringKind,” you can also select to deposit to your personal bank account and then make a direct donation online to the appropriate Walk page. If you do this, please let us know the name and address of the person who made the donation so that we may properly thank them.
In person. Walkers are always invited to stop by our office at 360 Lexington Ave. – 3rd Floor, New York, NY during regular office hours (M-F, 9:00 – 5:00). Please contact walk@cknyc.org to schedule a time to drop off checks.
